Energy Saving Concepts & Product Reviews!

You can probably remember your parents telling you at one time or another to turn out the lights when you've left a room or to turn them off when you don't need them on. Now you may even hear yourself saying the same thing to your children. But just how much energy do the lights in your home actually consume? Too much... you say when you see your electric bill at the end of the month. The cost of generating electricity continues to rise and utility companies never seem to hesitate when it comes to passing on their rising costs to the customer. We all have to realize that these utility cost increases will never go away, as demand for electricity continues to increase with each passing day.

incandescent lighting One of the main culprits of the electricity demand is lighting. Can we even imagine a world without lights? Businesses and office buildings couldn't work in the dark, the streets would be dark, our homes would be dark from sundown until sunrise. Life would be different in ways we could only imagine and many ways we couldn't imagine. The invention of the light bulb changed the whole world and the way people live. This invention however came with a cost. Our environment suffers from the generation of electricity in many ways. Fossil fuels are still the main producer of electricity even in the age of nuclear power plants.

Light bulbs come in all different shapes, sizes, and wattages. The dawn of the flourescent bulb to replace incandescents is a step in the right direction for those of us with a desire to help the environment and at the same time save on our own electric bill. These new bulbs are called compact fluorescent bulbs or CPL's. These compact fluorescents use about 75% less power than their incendescent counterparts. The energy savings are substantial to say the very least. This translates to more more in your pocket for other things, and less impact on the environment at the same time and in the future. These bulbs are produced with various color rendering so you can select the right one for your application and in many sizes with light output equivalent to incandescents. energy efficient lighting
